How To Get Control Of Your Mind
& Your Life
by Terry Cole-Whittaker
Mind control is a major part of our lives, and everywhere people are vying for our attention. Advertisers and politicians know that if they can get your attention they have a good chance of getting your money or your vote. When you get control of someone's mind, you get control of his or her decisions. The ideal is that we make our decisions based on what is in our own best interest, and for the greater good of the all rather than making decisions that are detrimental. Right here is the crux of the matter. It is up to each person to know exactly what it is that is in their best interest, and then they cannot be controlled and exploited.
We are being programmed constantly by what we see and hear. You could say, we are giant receivers absorbing whatever comes at us. Unless we put a guard up at the door of our minds, we are indiscriminate receivers and we must pay the price. If you plant a carrot seed you will get a carrot, even if you are allergic to carrots. Who planted the seeds?
Ask any person, "Are you a free person?" Most will answer, "Yes!" believing they are always exercising their free will and doing exactly what they want, when they want. Most likely they have never made a conscious choice in their entire lives. Being conscious requires that we know exactly what we want to be, do, and have and we endeavor to only think, believe, feel, speak, and behave in alignment with what we choose to manifest and experience. This is free will. Results come from thoughts acted upon.
Many are fearful of being controlled by others, when in truth, each person is their own worst enemy because they have an out of control mind that does what it wants and drags the person with it. If we do not control our mind, then our mind will and does control us. An uncontrolled mind can throw a person into dejection, fear, poverty, and even illness. Our greatest challenge and our most wonderful opportunity is to make our mind work for us rather than against us.
To make our mind into a good friend, we need to know how it works. The mind is a magnificently wonderful device. You are not a mind, but you have a mind, therefore you are not your thoughts, but you have thoughts. Just as you are not a body you have a body. Of course the body is the temple of the living God, so the body is a place of worship. The mind is to be directed by the intelligence and the intelligence is to be directed by the Higher Self. New thoughts come directly from Spirit/Divine Intelligence and each person is a receiver of these wonderful life affirming thoughts and realizations. What gets us into trouble is we can also receive old thoughts and old thoughts come from our subconscious mind and from the subconscious minds of others.
Either we are thinking and acting from high thoughts of prosperity, truth, and love, or we are thinking and acting from low scarcity based thoughts of fear, lack, anger, envy, poverty, and doubt. Thoughts, when believed and accepted, motivate us to act in favor of those thoughts. Action produces results. This being true, our thoughts control our destiny. Aren't you happy you do not act on all of your thoughts? Just think how fortunate you could become if you did not act on any low thoughts but only on the high ones?
You can attain anything you desire, if you know how to control your own mind to give you what you really desire in your heart of hearts. Everyone is seeking happiness and love and both are part of who we are. By controlling our minds we are able to bring forth our true selves and experience the wealth of love, happiness, ideas, enthusiasm, energy, and creativity that is within us. Negative thinking is like mud that covers the true self. Recently I met a woman pianist who is seventy-five plus. She has a wonderful talent and yet is completely minus any self-confidence. You'd think in all those years she would have some self-confidence. Self-confidence has nothing to do with talent. Just be confident! Love has nothing to do with worthiness. Simply love! Intelligence has little to do with scholarship. Know you are brilliant! Creativity has little to do with IQ. Dare to express yourself! All we desire has everything to do with our willingness to make the effort to direct our consciousness towards the attainment of our goals and topmost desires.
The mind is the pivot point between heaven and hell, as both are first a state of mind. Knowing who we are, as children of the Divine, and subsequently thinking only holy thoughts allows us to accept and enjoy an abundance of spiritual and material riches.
HOW DO WE GET CONTROL OF YOUR MIND?
1. Place God, as you know God to be, as the center, object and subject of your life. Know it is perfectly right for you to be positive, enthusiastic, happy, and successful in every area of your life. "It is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Our work is to accept it.
2. Take a while and observe your thoughts and how those thoughts change into emotions and just what those emotions cause you to do. Observe the cause and effect relationship between thoughts, actions, and results. Observation is a very high state of consciousness. Observation gives a person the freedom of choice.
3. When your mind is giving you a stream of negative, fear and scarcity-based thoughts say, "Cancel." Take charge of your mind and train it, as you would a dog. Make your mind behave, as you choose, and not let it run amuck. The mind is strong and must be conscientiously and deliberately directed to think what you want to think rather than allowing it to regurgitate old discouraging and destructive thoughts.
4. Fill your mind to overflowing with holy, divine ideas and positive thinking. Absorb your mind with thoughts, images, sounds, and messages that are harmonious with the quality of life you desire. Reading inspiring books, listening to inspiring people, taking classes in spiritual subjects, listening to uplifting radio, watching motivating and meaningful television and movies, associating with high-minded, truthful, loving and empowering people, etc. are all time tested ways to help us achieve our spiritual and material goals. Remember, you always get another chance to live your dream and attain your topmost goals and desires.
