The Adventures of Arrow is the delightful and
lesson-filled sequel to Mr. Kalinowski’s best-seller, Cupid’s Secret. Here
are stories about love and forgiveness combined with a message that when things
don’t go well you must never give up nor stop trying.
Arrow is the colt born to Cupid, and in the four
short stories that comprise The Adventures of Arrow, we read about Arrow’s
adventures and misadventures growing up. For instance, in the story called A
Summer Lesson, Farmer Buck’s dog came to the pasture to play with Arrow. They
played "chase" until Jack the dog ran under the fence. Arrow tried and
could not follow Jack, and bumped his head on the fence, instead.
The next day, Jack wanted to play
"chase" with Cupid. When wiser Cupid said no, Jack nipped at Cupid’s
legs and tail, and so Cupid gave Jack a swift kick. Jack learned a lesson.
In the next story, Stay Away From the Water,
young Arrow chases the ducks into the water and gets all muddy, so muddy that
the distinctive white arrow on his back is hidden. It is Jack the dog who
uncovered the arrow to everyone’s relief. This most interesting story reveals
at least three lessons to be learned.
And so it is throughout all of The Adventures of
Arrow. Each story (and accompanying illustrations) will hold your child’s
attention and, at the same time, offer learning experiences necessary to a good
life.
This reviewer can think of no better gift for
your child, grandchild, niece or nephew than The Adventures of Arrow. If it is
possible, Buck Kalinowski has given us an even more amusing and insightful
children’s book than his best seller, Cupid’s Secret! (see In Light Times
February 2003)
