Discover the Happiness Hiding In Your Life

Lately I’ve been looking for signs of happiness and joy.

I decided to check out the television. Fear Factor showed people terrified at the ridiculous things they were being asked to do. I hope they are paid well. The news — well that was grim. No uplifting stories there. Then I found a show where they demolished a person’s house and rebuilt it completely new — the people getting a new house are thrilled. There is a freshness and beauty that wasn’t there before. And a dream they never thought possible has come true beyond their greatest expectations. They have experienced a dramatic change and are in gratitude. Wow, those people were really happy.

I went to a park. Guess what? People were smiling and laughing. Children were playing. Someone was walking a puppy. Many stopped to pet the dog and smiled. The dog would wag its tail and try to jump up and lick the person. This caused laughter in both the dog owner and the person being licked.

The reason it’s easy to find happiness in the park is simple. The park allows us to connect with nature. It has trees, grass, and flowers. There are birds singing. When we walk in the park or sit on the ground we can connect with the earth and the natural rhythms of nature and with God. It is one of the most nurturing things we can do. We become still within and feel rejuvenated. If we sit long enough we may even stop thinking about our worries and begin to notice the beauty and sounds. It can provide an opportunity to be fully present in the now. The experience is so refreshing, soothing, healing and nurturing that spending some time in nature every day can bring happiness.

Where Does True Happiness Lie? 

The situations previously mentioned are all external environments that assist one in experiencing more joy. But those are all fleeting and temporary. Real joy must come from within - regardless of circumstances.

What prevents us from experiencing joy and gratitude in every moment? 

There are many issues, but here are two big ones that negatively affect many lives. The first is physical pain. The second is our financial picture.

Imagine for a moment how different our life would be if we had no pain and or financial worries. When in physical pain, nothing else can get our attention. Our body is screaming and we have to listen. We will most likely spend all our time and money trying to make the pain go away.

Then there is the money issue. Whether trying to live on a budget of a few dollars a month, or a few million dollars, huge amounts of time and energy are spent focusing on and worrying about money.

As with all issues, there is an underlying cause which is always of an illusion — a fear, a belief, a judgment, an expectation that is false. It is not the truth about God, about us, about how life has to be. It is something that has became part of us and our belief systems that is in direct opposition to Divine Truth. Those blocks, issues, energies, resistances to the Universal Flow, (by whatever name you choose to call them) are the reasons we are experiencing pain, worry about finances, don’t experience joy in every moment, and can’t manifest our every desire.

What is the single most important thing we can do to regain happiness? 

Learn to ask the right questions. If we ask the right questions, we can discover what our true issues are. One of the best questions to start with is “why.” Why do I have this pain? Where did it come from? Why do I get upset when I have to pay the bills? What am I afraid of? Where does that fear come from? Why haven’t I been able to manifest ____ (fill in the blank)? 

Listen for the answers. Write in your journal or sit in nature and ask questions and observe the answers. After asking a question and getting an answer, ask why again. Continue asking why until the root cause has been reached.

Every time we notice that we are not feeling joyful or happy, we must ask why. What were we thinking, doing, saying that took us out of joy?

Become the greatest detective that ever lived looking for clues about what is really happing in the subconscious mind — the 95% of the brain that causes us to act and react without logical explanation — the 95% really running the show. Once the reason has been revealed, then we can use techniques we know to permanently heal the issue and the root cause of it.
