DR. DAVID R. HAWKINS

Dr. David Hawkins is a world renowned spiritual researcher and lecturer who began his career in the field of psychiatry. INTERVIEW WITH 
DR. DAVID R. HAWKINS

KB: I know that you started your professional career as a psychiatrist. Please tell me the events in life that led you into spiritual research?

Dr. Hawkins: I have had several dramatic spiritual experiences throughout life. The first was at age three. Before age three there was oblivion. Then at that age the oblivion cleared and I was struck by a stunning confrontation with existence. Coming out of nothingness was a shock. The shock was severe. First came the awareness of existence, which was like being in a dark cave all your life, and suddenly someone turns on the lights. Then the fear of non-existence arose. To make matters worse, a body went with it! Then, when I was a teenager, one day I wanted to get out of a cold blizzard wind. I found a protective space and all of a sudden time stopped, the personal self disappeared, and there was only an infinite presence of Love beyond all description. As a result of being in the presence of Infinite Love, I was transformed and no longer had any fear of physical death. 

KB: In what ways did you find your life altered after you lost your fear of dying?

Dr. Hawkins: I was in World War II as a mine sweeper where the loss of my fear came in kind of handy. They were blowing up all around me, and it didn’t bother me at all. I figured, it you go you go.

KB: Basically, you entered this life on a conscious quest for truth.
