Greetings and happy holidays. As we close out the year and prepare for 2005 many thoughts filter through my mind. It has been a year of change, a time of great challenges and the embracing of our humanity. We have had to find the courage to continue on our journey of life — to realize some sign of hope.
In many ways our holidays are among those signs. With Thanksgiving we come together to give thanks…hopefully knowing that there is a Divine plan in place for a better tomorrow. Then we celebrate Christmas as a nation. Christmas is the love that permeates our hearts. It is the time when we give of ourselves and a time when we are open to others.
Down through the centuries there has always been hope. Teachers such as Christ, Buddha, Mother Teresa, The Dalai Lama, Gandhi, Muhammad all brought the message of love. As with most faiths, love is the single thread that binds all people. It is the universal language that all humanity knows.
So, for this holiday season I wish to share with you a wonderful “Love” poem.
Love is giving with no thought of getting. It is tenderness enfolding with strength to protect. It is forgiveness without further thought of the thing forgiven. It is understanding of human weakness, with knowledge of the true man shining through. It is quiet in the midst of turmoil. It is the refusal to see anything but good in our fellow man. It is the glory that comes with selflessness and the power that comes with assurance of unconditional love. It is the voice that says “no” to our brother, though “yes” might be more easily said. It is resistance to the world’s lust and greed, thus becoming a positive law of annihilation to error.
Love…the one thing no one can take from us…the one thing we can give constantly and become increasingly rich in the giving. Love can take no offense, for it cannot know that which it does not of itself conceive. It cannot hurt or be hurt, for it is the purest reflection of goodness. It is the one eternal, indestructible force for Good. AUTHOR UNKNOWN
