Life Happens
By Gayle Fazier
How many of us have wished that we could magically twitch our nose (like in Bewitched) and our lives and the lives of those we loved would instantly be working how we believe they should?
LIFE happens to us all and we deal with it in a variety of ways based on where we are, who we are, how we were raised, etc. No one’s life on the planet is ever going to be perfect but what we learn on our journey is what makes us who we are.
Take a moment and think. How do you react when life happens? A relationship ends, a job is released, you have to relocate, there’s a major expense in your home or with your car and money is scarce and you are having a hard time paying your monthly obligations. Have you ever stopped to think how our growth is through obstacles and challenges. Have you ever taken the time to see what you have learned from some of the challenges you’ve encountered? Everything that happens presents us with an opportunity to bring more awareness, to help us learn about ourselves and better our situation. It just depends upon what we do with it.
Have you ever given thanks and celebrated what you consider to be an “awful” event that’s shown up in your life? Perhaps you feel as if your world is falling apart and in the moment it is so real; however, as painful as it might be, deep inside we know it’s temporary.
Whatever event that just took place in your life, one that you weren’t planning on, is actually a reason to celebrate. It’s bringing about the opportunity to change. It’s telling you that you’re ready to move on and there’s something better out there for you.
What about relationships? Didn’t you gain something from those you met? Maybe you learned what you liked or disliked in a companion which led you to a certain clarity of what you would accept. Remember, there is always some lesson.
Lose a job before? However devastating that is to the ego, look where it lead you. Yes, there were probably a few bumps along the way, yet didn’t you find a new source of strength within yourself? Didn’t it turn out alright when the “riding of the wave” ended?
Living life is not a passive event; it is an action oriented journey. If you want to change some circumstance, be willing to take a different action for a different outcome. If you’re looking for a job, new relationship or just a better life, then write down the qualities you’d like to have for the new reality.
When “life happens” and it happens to us all, celebrate it — even if only for a moment. Get excited about whatever new people, places or events you encounter. View life through the eyes of joy — get excited about life — for everything is going to be okay.
