This Month's Spiritual Cinema Circle Films

AMAL - In the streets of New Delhi, everyone plays by their own rules. Amal, an auto rickshaw driver, is honest and kind because he chooses to be. When a grouchy old man takes his cab, Amal treats him as he would treat anyone on any given day, with honesty and kindness. This short film leaves you questioning what is the just reward for kind living? Could it simply be the living itself? Written by Shaun Mehta and Richie Mehta. Directed by Richie Mehta. (18 min.)

MILO 55160 - Milo is just your average paper shuffling, number stamping, nameless office worker...in the afterlife! When he meets Will, a boy struggling to stay alive on Earth, the two go on an adventure into a realm that remains a mystery to all of us. Finding courage to affect change, even when we feel trapped by bureaucracy, is a challenge that exists in every realm - not just on Earth. Written & Directed by David Ostry. (20 min.)

PLAINS EMPTY - A Sundance 2005 short film selection, PLAINS EMPTY shows the lonely and desolate outback of Australia where a few isolated men mine the earth. When a young woman moves there with her man, she finds herself in a place so lonely she struggles for the tools to cope. Left alone, she is forced to face the secrets of the past in this dangerous land, and discovers that facing her demons can transform the scariest fears into friends. This is our first scary ghost story! We hope you enjoy it. Written & Directed by Aboriginal director Beck Cole. (26 min.)

BAPTISTS AT OUR BARBEQUE - In this fun feature film, we follow a sweet, young, Mormon park ranger on his new assignment in a town with 262 Mormons and 262 Baptists. His arrival has tipped the scales! What follows is an adventure in comedy, romance, friendship, satire, family and community that asks us if we are willing to open our hearts and homes to those different than ourselves. This film’s love story is a wonderful metaphor for dissolving the old, destructive barriers between belief systems. Written by Robert Farrell Smith, Christian Vuissa and F. Matthew Smith. Based on the novel by Robert Farrell Smith. Directed by Christian Vuissa. (89 min.)

BONUS: BEHIND THE “SEEN:” CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD - The second offering of the CWG video diary, this emotional and haunting segment takes us on a journey with Neale Donald Walsch into the park where he lived for almost a year as a homeless man. (7 min.)
