DEADLY DOZEN DISEASES COULD STEM FROM GLOBAL WARMING
A spike in deadly infectious diseases in wildlife and people may be the “most
immediate consequence” of global warming, according to a new report released
today.
Dubbed the “deadly dozen,” sicknesses such as Lyme disease, yellow fever,
plague, and avian influenza, or bird flu, may skyrocket as global shifts in
temperature and precipitation transform ecosystems…
The deadly dozen were chosen by the conservation society’s health experts as
some of the most ominous health threats.
“The reason we want to draw attention to (microbes) is they’re difficult to see,
they have devastating effects, and we also don’t think about them until it’s too
late,” Karesh said.
“Since microbes and wildlife have evolved together over time, animal species
have developed adaptations to cope with the organisms. So disease spikes usually
point to something ‘out of sync with nature,’” Karesh said.
For example, bird flu—which can “jump” to humans, as it did to cause the Spanish
flu of 1918—may be worsened by drought. Wild birds that carry the disease have
been seen drinking alongside domesticated birds at scarce water sources.

RED YEAST RICE EXTRACT AND LOWERING CHOLESTEROL
Cholesterol drops 23% with No Side Effects
Red Yeast Rice Extract. Research has shown that red yeast rice extract (red rice
yeast) significantly reduces total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides
and increases HDL cholesterol. Red yeast rice has been used in China for
centuries as a food and as a medicinal substance.
…In Chinese medicine, red yeast rice is used to promote blood circulation,
soothe upset stomachs, lower cholesterol and invigorate the function of the
spleen (a body organ that destroys old blood cells and filters foreign
substances).
Chinese red yeast rice extract works naturally by inhibiting the key enzyme
reductase, responsible for producing cholesterol in the body. …
The results of patient trials using red yeast rice extract found that patients
receiving red yeast rice extract experienced a total cholesterol drop of 23%,
while (bad) LDL-cholesterol dropped 28.5%, triglycerides dropped 36.5% and HDL
(good) cholesterol increased 19.6%.…
Taking red yeast rice can safely help reduce and maintain healthy cholesterol
levels and promote blood circulation, thereby lowering the risk of heart
disease.
